Economics Fellow, Cato Institute; Former Chairman, House Financial Services Committee

Please join us for Cato on Tour Austin on Thursday, March 19. We are pleased to have Jeb Hensarling, Cato economics fellow, Peter Goettler, Cato president and CEO, Jennifer Huddleston, Senior Fellow in Technology Policy, and Kevin T. Frazier, Adjunct Research fellow, as our featured speakers.

Jeb Hensarling, former chair of the House Financial Services Committee, interviewed by Peter Goettler, will discuss the economic challenges facing our nation as we approach the country’s 250th Anniversary, from the debt crisis that Washington refuses to address to the battle between free-market principles and growing protectionism. With his insider perspective from years of leading financial policy debates on Capitol Hill, Jeb will explore what it takes to restore fiscal discipline, why regulatory overreach stifles innovation and opportunity, and how Cato maintains a unique role in the public policy ecosystem when liberty is in retreat.

Jennifer Huddleston, a senior fellow in technology policy at the Cato Institute, and Kevin T. Frazier, a lecturer and the director of the AI Innovation and Law Program at the University of Texas School of Law, will tackle AI’s opportunities and challenges. As AI transforms everything from health care and education to the economy, policymakers are racing to regulate a technology that they barely understand. Jennifer and Kevin will discuss why a light-touch regulatory approach benefits both innovators and consumers, what the consequences of heavy-handed regulation are (e.g., in Europe), and how free societies can address legitimate concerns about AI without stifling the innovation that improves lives.

This is your opportunity to engage with leading thinkers on the issues that matter most, connect with Austin’s liberty-minded community, and be part of the conversation shaping policy debates at the highest levels.
