Jeb Hensarling

Economics Fellow

Jeb Hensarling served in the U.S. Congress for eight terms representing the 5th District of Texas, which included serving three terms as Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. During his chairmanship, the Wall Street Journal referred to Hensarling as, “[the driver] of economic policy in the House.”

During his congressional career Hensarling was chosen to serve in several other key leadership positions including House Republican Conference Chairman in the 112th Congress, the 4th highest ranking position in the Republican Leadership. In the 110th Congress he was elected Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, Congress largest caucus. Additionally, Hensarling served on the Congressional Oversight Panel for TARP, the $700 billion troubled asset purchase program set up in wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

Hensarling has previously served as a Managing Director and Executive Vice Chairman of UBS Americas and currently serves on the board of directors of Cox Media Group and Aero Design Labs He earned a BA in Economics from Texas A&M University and a JD from the University of Texas. He and his family reside in Dallas, Texas.
