After a nearly two-month trial, late Tuesday afternoon a federal jury convicted former Oath Keeper founder and leader Stewart Rhodes of seditious conspiracy for his role in the attempted coup on January 6, 2021. The trial, which has received extensive media coverage, revealed a multitude of details about the actions of Rhodes, Meggs, and other Oath Keepers in the months leading up to the events of January 6, 2021.

From Kyle Cheney at POLITICO:

The jury also convicted Rhodes ally Kelly Meggs, leader of the Florida Oath Keepers, of seditious conspiracy. But the jury acquitted three co-defendants — Jessica Watkins, Kenneth Harrelson and Thomas Caldwell — of joining Rhodes in that conspiracy. All five, however, were convicted on additional felony charges, including obstruction of Congress.

If Rhodes and Meggs appeal–which seems likely–the legal drama will continue well into 2023. What’s also clear is that regardless of the ultimate outcome of this particular trial, the threat to domestic tranquility from armed paramilitary groups remains real, as I recently wrote.
