The Cato Institute has scholars available for interviews to provide expert commentary and analysis on the Friday summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Justin Logan, the director of defense and foreign policy studies, sets the stage for the summit in a new USA Today op-ed titled “The key to success at Trump-Putin Alaska summit on Ukraine? Low expectations.” In it, he writes, “Russia’s progress has limited the risk of escalation and increased Moscow’s willingness to continue fighting. Trump keeps trying to find a way to end the war, but time is not on Ukraine’s side.”
Doug Bandow, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, writes in an opinion piece that “Trump deserves credit for trying where Joe Biden was almost entirely AWOL,” arguing that “Washington should take the lead in ending the conflict and cleaning up a geopolitical mess that it helped create.”
