The federal government wants the tech sector to build flawed products to make law enforcement easier. However, if the United States leads the way in building government‐friendly back doors into all tech products, the U.S. will only be providing effective cover for totalitarian regimes to do the same. There’s simply not much evidence that making American communications less secure will aid the fight against terrorism.
