Patrick Jaicomo
Patrick Jaicomo is a senior attorney at the Institute for Justice and one of the leaders of IJ’s Project on Immunity and Accountability, where he works to dismantle judicially created immunity doctrines and ensure that individual rights are enforceable. Jaicomo has litigated immunity and accountability issues, including qualified immunity, judicial immunity, Bivens, and the Federal Tort Claims Act. Four of his cases have reached the Supreme Court, including the police brutality case Brownback v. King, the First Amendment retaliatory arrest case Gonzalez v. Trevino, and the similar retaliation case of Murphy v. Schmitt. Most recently, Jaicomo argued the FBI wrong-house raid case Martin v. United States and secured a unanimous victory from the Supreme Court in June 2025. Prior to joining IJ, Jaicomo was a litigator at a private firm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a JD from the University of Chicago. Jaicomo’s work has been featured in numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and USA Today.
