Jeff Vanderslice was the Director of Government and External Affairs at the Cato Institute where he was responsible for leading Cato’s federal affairs team and efforts while personally focusing on a portfolio of criminal justice, civil liberties, and separation of powers issues. Prior to joining Cato, Vanderslice spent a decade working on Capitol Hill on a variety of domestic policy issues, including drug policy reform. Among other policy achievements, Vanderslice was integrally involved with the enactment of a provision in law that bars the Department of Justice from using appropriated funds to prosecute individuals who are in compliance with their state’s medical marijuana laws.
Vanderslice is also an adjunct instructor at Northern Virginia Community College where he teaches political science courses and serves as the Vice Chair of the Cal State D.C. Scholars Advisory Board. Vanderslice holds an MA in government from Johns Hopkins University and a BA in political science from California State University, Fullerton.
