Prior to joining Cato, he was a senior research associate and manager at Harvard University’s Belfer Center and a junior fellow in Asia studies at the Center for the National Interest. He holds an MA in international relations from Johns Hopkins — SAIS and a BS in economics from Northeastern University.

Evan Sankey is a policy analyst at the Cato Institute. His research focuses on US policy toward China, extended deterrence, and how best to reform America’s longstanding alliances and partnerships in Asia. His work has been published in Responsible Statecraft, The Hill, The National Interest, Survival, and by the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
