Christopher Fettweis

Adjunct Scholar

Christopher J. Fettweis is an adjunct scholar in the Cato Institute’s Defense and Foreign Policy Studies Department and a professor at Tulane University’s Department of Political Science. Fettweis is the president of the board of the World Affairs Council of New Orleans. He has taught at George Washington University, Ohio State University, and the U.S. Naval War College, among other institutions.

Fettweis is the author of Psychology of a Superpower: Security and Dominance in U.S. Foreign Policy (Columbia University Press, 2018) and The Pathologies of Power: Fear, Honor, Glory, and Hubris in U.S. Foreign Policy (Cambridge University Press, 2013). His commentary has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, and National Interest, and his work has been published widely in academic journals, including Security Studies, International Studies Review, Political Science Quarterly, and Orbis, among others.

He earned his PhD from the University of Maryland.
