Alexander C. R. Hammond is the deputy editor of Human​Progress​.org and a policy analyst at the Cato Institute’s Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity.

He is the author of Heroes of Progress: 65 People Who Changed the World (2024), with a foreword by Steven Pinker.

Hammond’s research explores the drivers of human progress, with a focus on human freedom, African development, global well-being, and the history of innovation. His articles have been translated into more than a dozen languages and appeared in publications across North America, Europe, and Africa. Hammond has also delivered dozens of talks at universities, conferences, and think tanks worldwide.

He is the founder of the Initiative for African Trade and Prosperity, an advisory committee member at the Whetstone Freedom Fund, and a fellow at EPICENTER. Previously, Hammond was a program manager at the Rising Tide Foundation and a free trade fellow and policy analyst at the Institute of Economic Affairs in London.

Hammond received his BA in history and politics from the University of Exeter and his Master of Research in political economy from the University of Buckingham, both in the United Kingdom.
