Today, the Trump administration released a framework on artificial intelligence that can be applied across the country, rather than letting states set their own standards. Following this announcement, Kevin Frazier, an adjunct research fellow at the Cato Institute, released the following statement:
“Our Founders set our constitutional system up so that we’d all sink or swim together. If states continue to regulate AI out of fear, the nation’s AI hopes will drown in red tape. President Trump’s framework points a path forward: ensuring states can continue to enforce existing laws that protect our children and communities, while directing Congress to make the nation AI-ready. We are at an inflection point: we can continue to be scared of AI or to harness it as yet another tool that can help revive and spread the American Dream. This proposal steers us in the right direction by championing workforce readiness, spreading AI literacy, and sustaining AI innovation.”
