Today, the Federal Trade Commission is hosting an event titled “The Attention Economy: How Big Tech Firms Exploit Children and Hurt Families.” The event will bring together parents, child safety experts, and government leaders.
David Inserra, a fellow for free expression and technology at the Cato Institute, was originally invited to attend the workshop, which held the original title “The Attention Economy: Monopolizing Kids’ Time Online” before it was revised to the current one-sided iteration.
Inserra talks about the workshop in a new blog post, in which he states that the new hearing “is a missed opportunity for experts, users, regulators, and policy makers to engage in a real conversation on the issue of how technological products are used by kids.”
Inserra goes on to outline an abridged version of the remarks he’d originally planned to make.
If you’d like to speak with Inserra, please reach out to mmiller@cato.org.
