Multiple former FCC Chairmen and Commissioners from both Democratic and Republican administrations recently released a petition requesting the FCC “repeal its news distortion rule in full.”

In light of overreach by the FCC, most notably FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s demands that ABC-Disney remove Jimmy Kimmel given his comments about Charlie Kirk, they cite the “constitutionally problematic” application of the policy that is “open to partisan weaponization.”

Cato scholars David Inserra and Brent Skorup similarly wrote about the threats made by the FCC and called for an end to the news distortion rule, calling it “hopelessly subjective and liable to abuse for political ends.”
