President Donald Trump and his administration have recently stated they are considering vetting artificial intelligence models before they are released. Following this reporting, David Inserra, a fellow for free expression and technology at the Cato Institute, released a statement:
The Trump administration’s reported plan to vet AI tools before they can be released threatens free speech and innovation. AI tools have great potential to expand expression and should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Inserra has previously written on the dangers of AI regulation in a briefing paper titled: Artificial Intelligence Regulation Threatens Free Expression. To speak with Inserra on AI regulation, contact Cato PR at pr@cato.org.
