Cato Scholars Respond to U.S. Strikes on Nuclear Sites in Iran
President Donald Trump announced Saturday evening that the U.S. carried out strikes on nuclear sites in Iran. Jon Hoffman, a research fellow in defense and foreign policy at the Cato Institute, commented on the move:
War with Iran is not America First—it is America Last. Striking the nuclear facilities was always a smokescreen designed to drag the US into the war as an active participant. Trump says he wants “total victory.” Yet there is no such victory to be had here—only disaster.
He has previously written about the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, saying that President Trump should not follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lead and that “limitless support for the Israeli premier’s policies endangers American interests.”
