In a new article, Dr. Jon Hoffman, a research fellow at the Cato Institute, credits President Donald Trump for making notable progress in Yemen and Syria. But Hoffman warns that more work remains—particularly when it comes to Gaza and Iran, which will require a break with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“If Trump cannot break with Netanyahu on these issues, Israel will continue to lead U.S. Middle East policy in a direction anathema to American interests,” Hoffman writes. “Trump has a real opportunity to stop the carnage in Gaza, seal a nuclear agreement with Tehran, and begin disentangling the United States from the Middle East. He should seize it.”
