A federal judge has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship, calling it “blatantly unconstitutional.”

Alex Nowrasteh argues in a recent blog post “There is no good reason to end birthright citizenship in the United States.”

He states, “The revocation of birthright citizenship not only goes against almost 420 years of legal precedent but also will raise practical difficulties for native-born Americans regardless of their parentage.”

Revoking birthright citizenship lacks constitutional authority and defies more than a century of precedent. He notes “the elimination of birthright citizenship could eventually place every single person in America in the precarious position of having to prove American citizenship via descent to justify their own citizenship or that of their children.”
