In his latest piece, “Righteous Lies: When DEI Justifies Falsehood,” Erec Smith, a research fellow at the Cato Institute, takes aim at a troubling trend: the use of misinformation to promote ideological agendas under the banner of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Drawing from his own experience, Smith describes how his March 7 testimony before Congress, where he raised concerns about the excesses of DEI initiatives, was later distorted by activists.

“Many people have been victims of this righteous indignation,” Smith writes. “False testimony is a trend among activists for whom moral certainty overrides factual responsibility.”
