Cato Institute Director of Immigration Studies and Selz Foundation Chair in Immigration Policy David Bier is available for interviews in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to lift a restraining order which prohibited immigrant agents from making sweeping immigration stops in Los Angeles.

Bier issued the following statement in reaction:

This decision guarantees that ICE will continue to violate the Fourth Amendment and illegally detain US citizens and legal residents based on their demographics and occupations nationwide. Mass deportation is a terrible excuse to undermine the freedoms of Americans. Congress must require ICE to have real evidence of violations of the law before making stops and arrests. When ICE violates people’s rights and stops them without reason, the inevitable result will be unnecessary conflict that threatens everyone, even ICE agents themselves.

Last month, Bier wrote an op-ed for MSNBC.com on ICE’s suspicion-free profiling of Latinos, which you can read here.
