In a new op-ed for The Atlantic, Vice President of General Economics for the Cato Institute, Lincicome, discusses what the U.K. trade deal reveals about Donald Trump’s broader strategy on trade.
Lincicome critiques the recent U.S.-U.K. agreement as “flimsy,” noting it delivers only limited tariff relief and leaves major trade issues unresolved. “If the U.K. deal is a model for deals yet to be struck,” he writes, “Trump will have little to show for the chaos and disruptions that his tariffs have unleashed.” He contrasts this outcome with what could have been achieved under traditional free-trade frameworks like the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
