I wanted to pass along a new piece titled “Trying to ‘Bring Back’ Manufacturing Jobs Is a Fool’s Errand” by Cato Institute Vice President Norbert Michel and Research Associate Jerome Famularo.

Even though the Trump administration seems bent on “bringing back” manufacturing jobs to the United States, most Americans recognize that service sector jobs have already made America great, the authors write.

You’d never guess it from all the political rhetoric, but service sector jobs have always been a major factor in America’s success, and for decades, even more so than manufacturing. Trying to “bring back” manufacturing jobs, through harmful tariffs or other industrial policies, is destined to end badly for Americans.

Tomorrow, Michel’s new book Crushing Capitalism: How Populist Policies are Threatening the American Dream will be released. If you would be interested in a complimentary copy of the book, please let me know!

To speak with Michel, please contact pr@cato.org to set up an interview.
