Every year, the Cato Institute receives well over a thousand applications for its internship program. Unsurprisingly, the number of well-qualified applicants significantly surpasses the number of positions available. To engage more of those high-quality applicants, Cato has developed a unique, invitation-only weekend seminar.
The Fall Liberty Seminar aims to identify and educate promising liberty-minded students and recent graduates — and, in doing so, help to launch their careers.
Around 50 seminar participants will gather at the Cato Institute to explore the historical, economic, and philosophical foundations of a free society and how those principles apply to contemporary policy issues. The seminar will feature lectures with leading scholars and policy experts — many of whom students may recognize from television, newspaper columns, and popular blogs. There will also be daily discussion groups and evening socials to provide an outlet for processing and debating the content of the lectures. In addition, the seminar will include sessions focused on career development and job opportunities in the liberty movement.
The Fall Liberty Seminar will be hosted at the Cato Institute’s headquarters located at 1000 Massachusetts Ave., NW Washington, D.C. 20001. Attendees will have free time to explore downtown D.C. Your invitation includes all lectures, discussions, readings, and meals (breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, and socials) during the program (attendees are responsible for their own travel expenses). Also included is multiple occupancy, dorm-style housing for three nights at the Hostelling International DC, located at 1009 11th St., NW Washington, D.C. 20001 with a check-in date of November 29 and a check-out date of December 2.
For travel purposes, the hostel check-in is from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Thursday. The hostel provides complimentary luggage storage pre-check-in and post-check-out if your room is not available upon arrival. Registration at the Cato Institute will begin Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The seminar will conclude Saturday at 11:00 p.m. Please plan to check out of the hostel no later than 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
