Cato on Tour: Sarasota
Featuring
Please join us on Friday, March 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a luncheon conversation about the foundational challenges shaping America’s economic future: energy policy and monetary reform.
Agenda
Free-Market Electricity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
America’s electrical grid is facing unprecedented demands from artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers, yet we’re still operating under an energy regulatory framework built for a different era. Travis Fisher, Cato’s director of energy and environmental policy studies, will sit down with Alex Nowrasteh, senior vice president for policy, for a conversation about how government intervention distorts energy markets and prevents the innovation we desperately need.
Travis will share updates on the state of our energy grid, the regulatory barriers holding us back, and what free-market reforms could unlock to meet tomorrow’s energy demands. This is a crucial conversation as AI transforms our economy and puts new pressures on our infrastructure.
Reforming the Fed and Our Financial System
Following that discussion, Norbert Michel, vice president and director of Cato’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives, will present on the urgent need for monetary and financial reform. Norbert will make the case for why free markets work best, even in financial markets, and how market-oriented alternatives can lead to more widespread economic prosperity.
Energy policy and monetary policy determine whether innovation can flourish or is strangled by red tape. Get them wrong, and prosperity becomes impossible. Get them right, and they unlock growth and opportunity for all Americans.
