Please join us for a Sarasota Reception, featuring presentations by Cato’s Romina Boccia and Michael F. Cannon.

Join us for a conversation about one of the biggest challenges facing our country: America’s growing debt. With interest costs climbing and entitlement programs on an unsustainable path, we’re heading toward a fiscal crisis. Romina Boccia will share some of the key ideas from her new book, Reimagining Social Security (August 2025), including lessons from other countries and reforms that could work here in the US. The goal: protect seniors who rely on the old-age benefit system while making sure younger generations aren’t buried under insurmountable debt. The catch: taxing the rich or levying tariffs on other countries’ products won’t work. Hear about real solutions that preserve opportunity and liberty in the United States and the path forward.

The health care debate is full of contradictions. At the same time, the media tell us that Republicans are cutting Medicaid, Medicaid spending continues to rise. At the same time Democrats tell us that Medicaid and Obamacare are popular, they go so far as to shut down the government until they get legislation to hide those programs’ costs. At the same time the Left calls US health care the most expensive and wasteful in the world, they warn that cutting health spending would be catastrophic. In this session, Cato director of health policy studies Michael F. Cannon makes sense of the insanity.
