Cato on Tour: Austin
Please join us for a cocktail reception and conversation in Austin. We are pleased to have Romina Boccia, Cato’s director of budget and entitlement policy, and Travis Fisher, Cato’s director of energy and environmental policy, as our featured speakers.
Romina’s recently published book, Reimagining Social Security: Global Lessons for Retirement Policy Changes, examines how other nations have successfully adapted their retirement systems to demographic shifts and economic realities—lessons that could prove vital as the United States faces Social Security’s trust fund depletion in 2033. Romina will outline practical reform options that balance fiscal sustainability with retirement security while preserving individual liberty.
Travis will share his recent experience working with Energy Secretary Chris Wright at the Department of Energy. Drawing on his inside perspective from DOE and the groundbreaking climate report he helped produce with Secretary Wright, Travis will explain how media coverage often distorts climate science and leads to misguided policies. He will discuss how hitting reset on the climate narrative will refocus policymakers on energy realism and human-centric priorities like improving energy abundance and reducing energy poverty. Fisher will also detail how his work paved the way for the substantial repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act’s energy subsidies in July 2025.
