Please join us for Cato Club Naples—a series of exclusive events for Cato Sponsors whose annual contribution is $1,000 or more. Our first luncheon of the season will feature presentations by Jason Sorens and Michael F. Cannon.
Cato’s biennial report Freedom in the 50 States: An Index of Personal and Economic Freedom is a state-by-state ranking on how well a state’s policies promote freedom in the fiscal, regulatory, and personal realms. Lacking an individual income tax and featuring a hot climate, Florida has long enjoyed substantial migration: people vote with their feet for good weather and the increased opportunity afforded by Florida’s freer society. Ranked first overall, Florida does especially well on economic freedom, especially on fiscal policy. Jason will join us to discuss his latest findings.
New federal rules allow a parallel free market in health insurance to coexist alongside Obamacare. The new rule will expand consumer protections for the sick, cover up to two million uninsured people, reduce premiums for millions more, protect conscience rights, and make Obamacare’s costs more transparent. But will states allow this market to thrive? In his presentation Michael will address that question and share his most recent research on the topic.
