The government shutdown and debt‐ceiling fights have dominated national headlines. Pundits point to excessive partisanship as the source of problems in Washington and the cause of current fiscal dysfunctions. But the real problem is that massive deficit spending has become so routine that the federal government has become a freight train out of control. Cato scholars Chris Edwards and Dan Mitchell will underline the importance of cutting federal spending as a solution to Washington’s ongoing fiscal crises. They look forward to taking your questions on this important and timely topic.

This special online‐only series is an opportunity to hear from Cato’s policy staff. Our thanks for your continued support of the Cato Institute. We hope you’ll join in on the discussion.
