Angus Deaton won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, “for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare.” Deaton is a professor of Economics and International Affairs at Princeton University. At a [Cato Book Forum](https://www.cato.org/events/great-escape-health-wealth-origins-inequality) in 2013, he presented his book *The Great Escape: Health, Wealth, and the Origins of Inequality*, in which he explains why people throughout the world are living longer and more prosperous lives than ever before.
