# Trump cites Cato’s Michael F. Cannon in Truth Social Post on Obamacare

States don’t need to wait for Congress. In Kentucky, Rep. Vanessa Grossl (R‑Georgetown) introduced [legislation](https://www.cato.org/blog/will-kentucky-take-lead-obamacare-relief) that would immediately let residents access Obama’s 2014 relief by removing barriers to Obamacare-exempt plans available in US territories.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump cited [Michael F. Cannon](https://www.cato.org/people/michael-f-cannon), Director of Health Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, in a [Truth Social post](https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115877159371615050) outlining proposals to provide relief from rising Obamacare premiums.

In response, Cannon has published a new[ blog post](https://www.cato.org/blog/trump-promotes-regulatory-relief-not-subsidies-solution-obamacare) explaining his recommendations for providing relief from Obamacare:

- “Don’t renew any expired COVID-19-era subsidies.”
- “Don’t convert Obamacare premium subsidies into cash subsidies.”
- “Make universal and permanent the regulatory relief Trump provided in 2018 and President Obama provided in 2014.”
- “Let consumers control the money.”

Cannon writes: “States don’t need to wait for Congress. In Kentucky, Rep.
