# Trump Signs Executive Order to Reduce Drug Prices

May 14, 2025 • News Releases

In a [new blog post](https://www.cato.org/blog/trump-attempts-price-controls-prescription-drugs), Cato Institute senior fellow [Michael F. Cannon](https://www.cato.org/people/michael-f-cannon) says President Trump’s latest executive order on drug pricing crosses into dangerous territory: government-imposed price controls.

> “Trump’s executive order is an attempt to impose government price controls on pharmaceuticals,” writes Cannon, warning that it threatens drugmakers with coordinated federal action if they don’t meet price targets. “It’s a laundry list of coercive actions.”
