President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court Thursday to review his ban on birthright citizenship.

Cato scholars [Alex Nowrasteh](https://www.cato.org/people/alex-nowrasteh) and [David Bier](https://www.cato.org/people/david-bier) have both commented on birthright citizenship in the past and say there’s no good reason to end it.

The Constitution and centuries of common law are clear that birthright citizenship is the American way. Furthermore, birthright citizenship helps to speed the assimilation and integration of the children of immigrants.
