# Will Banning E‑Cigarettes Make the Problem Worse?

After addressing the “meth epidemic” with the [Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act](https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/meth/index.html) of 2005 (don’t look now, but meth-related deaths are at [historic highs](https://khn.org/news/meth-vs-opioids-america-has-two-drug-epidemics-but-focuses-on-one/), eclipsing those solely from prescription opioids), and after addressing the opioid epidemic by depriving patients of pain medication while [driving nonmedical users](https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/prescriptions-are-down-overdoses-are-progress) to more dangerous drugs, it appears politicians, assisted by an eager press, are setting their sights on fixing the newest “epidemic:” the “[growing epidemic of e‑cigarette use in our children.](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/09/09/melania-trump-tweets-she-deeply-concerned-youth-vaping/2268729001/)”
