# Lawrence H. White on Transitioning to a Gold Standard 

Lawrence H. White is a professor of economics at George Mason University. He is an expert on banking and monetary policy. He is the author of *[Competition and Currency: Essays on Free Banking and Money](https://www.cato.org/store/books/competition-currency-essays-free-banking-money-paperback)* (1989). He spoke at the Cato Institute’s 29th Annual Monetary Conference in November 2011.
