# Congress’s Proposed Effective Ban on TikTok Advances 

It’s an immensely popular social media app, but if a proposed new law goes into effect, TikTok would face a nationwide ban in the US if the app isn’t divested from Beijing-based ByteDance. It raises questions for both the free speech rights of producers and users, and the property rights of company owners.
