## Slovakia at the Crossroads of Reform

**Holiday Inn, Bratislava, Slovakia
Monday, May 17, 2010**

Between 2002 and 2006, Slovakia implemented a number of important reforms, including a partially privatized pension system and a flat income tax. With the change of government in 2006, reforms stopped. As Slovakia prepares for a general election next month, it is confronting a number of challenges, including corruption, a deep mistrust of the judiciary, the runaway cost of health care, and an underperforming higher education system. International experts, Slovak officials, and representatives of the broad range of Slovakia’s political parties will discuss market-based solutions to the problems that beset these government-provided services in Slovakia and the rest of Central Europe.
