Don’t believe everything you read at [The Plank](http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_treatment/archive/2009/08/18/two-conservatives-take-a-stand-for-decency-and-honesty.aspx) — including the part about Sarah Palin’s “death panel” claim being a “lie.”

Palin’s claim was a tad hyperbolic, but that does not change the fact that — as I explain in the *Detroit Free Press* — [President Obama has proposed a new government panel that would enhance Medicare’s ability to deny care to the elderly and disabled based on government bureaucrats’ arbitrary valuations of those patients’ lives](http://www.freep.com/article/20090819/OPINION05/90819047/1336/opinion/Truth-about-death-panels).
