Congressman George Miller (D‑CA) is at it again, publishing a [letter in the *New York Times* ](http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/14/opinion/l14loans.html)Saturday implying that the [Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act](https://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10596) — which is, thankfully, languishing in the Senate right now — would save taxpayers $87 billion over ten years.

Quite the opposite: The bill [would almost certainly cost taxpayers ](https://www.cato.org/2009/09/14/full-house-to-vote-on-lie-of-a-bill/)additional tens-of-billions, not save money. But that doesn’t seem to deter Miller. Unfortunately, neither does the [galactic national debt](http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/), nor that people [appear to have had it ](https://www.cato.org/2010/01/20/are-we-mad-about-safra/#more-11111)with seemingly incessant expansion of federal power.
