# Reid’s Accomplishment

Including a [Fannie Med](https://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10382) with a “[state opt-out](https://www.cato.org/2009/10/26/state-opt-out-proposal-a-ruse-within-a-ruse/)” provision in the Senate Democrats’ health care bill accomplishes only this: it helps Majority Leader Harry Reid (D‑NV) survive as majority leader by appeasing his left wing. It doesn’t make it any more (or less) likely that Fannie Med will survive.
