U.S. Constitution Now Available in Spanish
Cato Institute Translates America's Founding Documents
The Cato Institute has released a bilingual edition of its popular pocket edition of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. This edition features a new translation, with the English and Spanish text on facing pages, and a preface by constitutional scholar Roger Pilon.
Today, 12.5 percent of the total U.S. population is of Hispanic descent. And one in 10 Americans is a native Spanish speaker--28.1 million in all. As these numbers continue to increase, Cato believes that it is important to give new Americans access to America's founding documents.
This new edition will be useful to those preparing for citizenship tests and anyone seeking a greater understanding and appreciation of the principles of American government. It will also be of interest to students of history and inter-American relations in Spanish-speaking countries.
Published in September in conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month, the bilingual edition is an indispensable guide for immigrants, new citizens, and lovers of liberty.
The Cato Institute, a nonprofit think tank based in Washington, D.C., seeks to broaden the conversation about public policy by providing an alternative to partisan politics that is consistent with the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, and peace. Toward that end, the publication of the Declaration and U.S. Constitution furthers the Institute's core mission of engaging people in questions of policy and the proper role of government.
