Cato Institute Named Best Advocacy Website for 2002

WASHINGTON -- The Cato Institute's website (www.cato.org) has been named "Best Advocacy Website for 2002" by the Web Marketing Association.

The Cato website averages between 13,000 and 17,000 unique visitors per day.

The site boasts a dynamic homepage that ties the work of Cato's scholars to current events and ongoing issues in public policy. Visitors find it features live video and audio streaming of Cato public events. Books, studies, briefing papers and events are accessible from the Home Page and easily navigable throughout the site. A comprehensive archive is available for all previous white papers, studies, op-eds and events The site features an in-depth Daily Commentary and a Daily Dispatch, which report on breaking news items. Both are available on personal digital assistants through AvantGo.

"We've completely overhauled our website in the last year," said Richard Pollock, Cato's vice president for communications. "The think tank world has been lagging in utilizing emerging technology to spread the only equity -- information and analysis. We're proud to have a growing Internet presence that reflects the high quality of work produced by our scholars. We are especially pleased that these efforts have been recognized by the Web Marketing Association."

"This progress could not have been achieved without the hard work and creative efforts of our Web department, led by Virginia Anderson, our Web manager, Radley Balko, and our designer, PJ Doland Web Design, Inc." Pollock said. "This is their award."

The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate web development on the World Wide Web. Past winners have included British Airways, Federal Express, Ogilvy Worldwide and Disney Online.
