Voucher Wars: Waging the Legal Battle over School Choice
Meet Clint Bolick -- the David Who Slew the Education Goliath
Millions of American children are trapped in failing public school systems because their families lack the money to choose a private school or to move into a better public school district. Twelve years ago, however, a long legal battle began to allow parents, especially low-income parents, the option of using their tax dollars to educate their children at private or parochial schools instead of at failing public schools.
That historic battle finally ended in victory with the recent Supreme Court decision in Zelman v. Simmons-Harris, which stated that vouchers, tax credits, and other forms of educational choice were constitutional. Because of the untiring work of Clint Bolick, the man who began and nourished that legal battle, underprivileged children now have an alternative.
Voucher Wars: Waging the Legal Battle over School Choice by Clint Bolick recounts the dramatic 12-year battle to finally give families a choice in education and looks ahead to a future when every child can get the best education possible. Beginning the journey in Milwaukee and going on to Maine, Vermont, Florida and Cleveland, Bolick shares with the reader both the joy and sorrow with each child, parent, and teacher as the journey unfolds.
The battle over educational freedom is not yet over, but as Bolick notes, school choice "will begin to help our nation finally deliver on its promise of opportunity."
