Will REAL ID Actually Make Us Safer?

On May 8, Cato scholar Jim Harper testified before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on the REAL ID Act. In his testimony, Harper argues that, "REAL ID is a loser. It costs more to implement than it would add to our country's protections....We can have identification and credentialing systems that maximize security and minimize surveillance. REAL ID is the ugly alternative to getting it right."
