Is politics just a raw struggle for power? Or are there principles that explain the way the world works? Can we determine, on the basis of those principles, how government should operate in order to maximize the harmony and happiness of persons living together in society? David Boaz, author of Libertarianism: A Primer, will discuss the fundamental concepts of individual rights, spontaneous order, and limited government and show how they illuminate politics and policy. Applying those concepts to issues like Social Security, education, and health care, he will argue that libertarianism offers the framework that best allows individuals to pursue their happiness.
