Stefan Tangermann, the OECD director for agriculture policy and a professor of agricultural economics, will release OECD’s annual study quantifying farm subsidy levels in the 30 OECD member countries. He will discuss the study’s results, and problems caused by continued high subsidies in Europe, Japan, the United States, and elsewhere. Dan Griswold will discuss the international trade fallout from the massive new U.S. farm bill. The bill comes just as the world has launched a new trade round designed to reduce trade barriers, including distortions in global agriculture markets. Chris Edwards will discuss the domestic economic and budgetary issues raised by the farm bill.
