Unsolicited e-mail, or "spam," clogs our in boxes with come-ons for everything from the mundane to the outrageous—from toner cartridges to sex aids to "work at home" pitches. The Federal Trade Commission has announced new initiatives to target fraudulent e-mail spam, and private groups have unveiled programs requiring standards of behavior to which online merchants must adhere.
