History amply demonstrates that in times of war, government grows and liberty yields. America's new war on terrorism already shows signs of that as Attorney General Ashcroft petitions Congress for more power to wage the war. Yet the principal business of government is precisely to wage war on those who threaten our liberty and security. The question, then, is how to secure liberty consistent with liberty. In this debate, Rep. Bob Barr has taken a forthright stand against expanding government's powers too easily, whether they concern surveillance, searches, seizures, encryption, deportations, ID cards, due process, or many other matters. Please join us for what should be a lively discussion of a question now at the center of the national debate.
