Robert McDonald is assistant professor of history at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has published in academic journals of history, including Journal of the Early Republic, The Encyclopedia of American Political History, The Historian, and Southern Cultures, and has made a reputation as a scholar of Thomas Jefferson and received national recognition for his identification of Jefferson’s personal notebooks. He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia, his M.St. degree from Oxford University, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
